Rāma Ashtakam is a beautiful octet praising lord Rāma and establishing that he is the Supreme reality, non-dual to our own true self.
This hymn is attributed to sage veda vyāsa. This hymn is a good mix of devotion to rāma while clearly experiencing that Rama and our self (awareness or consciousness) are not two separate entities but one and the same like the ocean and the wave.
This hymn praises the divinity of lord rāma, it doesn’t speak about the pastimes of Rama nor does it speak much about the appearance of rāma. The goal of the hymn is establishing that Lord rāma is the supreme reality who is non dual to our real self (atman)
The translation of this hymn aims to explain the advaitic wisdom of the Vedas and Upanishads while praising lord Rāma with devotion.
