Pragyavivardana Stotra – A Hymn from Rudrayamalam

This hymn is from a work of Tantra named Rudrayaamala. This is a hymn praising Skanda, who is known as Kartikeya, Subramhanya etc. He is worshiped by the name Murugan in Tamil Nadu. He is the son of Shiva and Paarvati. He is the greatest of the gurus (spiritual masters) he is an embodiment of wisdom and valor.

This hymn is called Pragyaa vivardhana Kaartikeya stotra because the lord Subramhanya when worshiped by chanting this hymn blesses his devotees with pure and clear mind to lead a clean righteous life and great spiritual wisdom of self realization which helps us in liberation.

This hymn is a collection of twenty eight names of lord Subramhanya initiated by himself to the great sages and seers (rishis).

Each name of the lord praises and describes a unique aspect and quality of the lord and is associated with a form of lord Skanda described in the agamas and Tantras. By worshiping those forms chanting the name associated with the form and contemplating on the particular form the devoted worshiper can attain various fruits.

In this book those names are explained in simple English with the help of Vedas, puraanas, itihaasaas (Ramaayana and Mahaabhaarata epics) and mantra shaastras.
